Frequently Asked Questions

Get quick, authoritative answers to operating, maintaining, and fueling your Genmax power equipment.

What kind of oil is recommended for my generator?
We recommend standard SAE 10W-30 4-stroke motor oil for normal ambient operating temperatures. For colder climates where temperatures drop below 20°F (-7°C), use synthetic 5W-30 to ensure smooth cold-weather cranking. Always check the dipstick before starting your generator; never run the engine with low oil, as the Low Oil Sensor will prevent the engine from firing.
Is there a specific type of gasoline I should use?
Use clean, fresh unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher and an ethanol content of 10% or less (E10). Never use E15, E85 flex-fuel, or diesel in gasoline engines, as high ethanol concentrations attract moisture and gum up small carburetor jets. For fuel stored over 30 days, always treat with a quality fuel stabilizer.
How often should I change the engine oil?
For a brand-new unit, perform the initial break-in oil change after the first 20 hours of operation to remove microscopic metal wear particles. Thereafter, change the engine oil every 50 to 100 operating hours or at least once per season, whichever occurs first. In extremely dusty or heavy-load commercial conditions, change oil more frequently.
What is the difference between Starting Watts and Running Watts?
Running Watts (Continuous Watts) is the continuous electrical output the generator can sustain over hours to power your appliances. Starting Watts (Peak / Surge Watts) is the extra momentary surge capacity provided for 2-3 seconds to start motor-driven appliances like central air conditioners, refrigerators, sump pumps, and compressors.
How does the CO Alert / CO Shield automatic shutoff work?
The integrated CO sensor continuously analyzes the surrounding ambient air for dangerous concentrations of carbon monoxide (CO) gas. If hazardous fumes accumulate near the engine or enclosed structure, the sensor triggers an immediate ignition shutdown and illuminates a warning LED. Important: Generators must ALWAYS be operated outdoors in open spaces, at least 20 feet away from windows, doors, and occupied structures.
Can I parallel connect two Genmax inverters together?
Yes! Genmax inverters equipped with parallel ports can be interconnected using our official Parallel Kit (GM6000SPK or GM9000PK). Paralleling two identical or compatible inverters doubles your available wattage and provides a heavy-duty 50A RV or transfer-switch receptacle without having to transport a heavy, oversized generator.
How do I switch fuels on Dual-Fuel and Tri-Fuel models?
Our units feature a front-facing multi-fuel selector dial. To run on Propane (LPG), connect the included high-pressure regulator hose to your 20lb or 100lb tank, open the cylinder valve, turn the dial to LPG, and start. For Tri-Fuel units running on Natural Gas (NG), connect the included 25-foot quick-connect NG hose to your home's natural gas stub and rotate the dial to NG.
How do I properly store my generator for extended periods?
When storing for more than 30 days: (1) Turn the fuel valve OFF while the engine is running and let the engine stall out to purge the carburetor bowl of gasoline. (2) Drain any remaining fuel from the tank or treat it thoroughly with fuel stabilizer. (3) Change the engine oil. (4) Remove the spark plug, pour a teaspoon of clean oil into the cylinder, and pull the starter cord twice before reinstalling the plug. (5) Disconnect the 12V battery and keep it on a maintenance charger.
